Flat Roofs
The flat roof is the ever-popular architectural design in Arizona and it continues to preserve the history and heritage of ancient dwelling styles still in existence today. The Sonoran and Native American flat roof building even takes precedence to the consequences of over-exposure to the hot desert sun and harsh elements. Other architectural styles may compete with the natural landscape of the Sonoran Desert and hilly backdrop but this flat roof design responds elegantly to the topography and environment of our beautiful Southwest lifestyle.
A-S Urethane Systems specializes in flat and low pitch roofs. We use our superior DURAGARD polyurethane foam application which is designed to be sustainable far longer than any other conventional roofing system on the market.
A Flat Roof, unlike the traditional sloped form, is horizontal with a slight grade to allow water to escape.
There are numerous flat roof applications such as torch down, hot asphalt, and single-ply. However, A-S Urethane Systems applies the DURAGARD Roofing System that provides a continuous membrane covering with superior resistance to severe conditions and pools of standing water. This state of the art application is customized for commercial, industrial and residential use.
The Conventional Roof
Higher pitched roofs allow for products such as tiles or shingles which do not work well on low-slope roofs. It is necessary for these types of roofs to have a single-ply membrane or built-up roof system under these products.
Tile
We apply All Brands of Concrete, and 2 Piece tiles on both residential homes and commercial buildings that are available on the market.
Tile roofs are very aesthetic but are only as water-tight as the underlayment used. Generally, the minimum standard for underlayment is 30lb felt. However, our harsh Arizona climate demands an underlayment of 40lbs or better.
Choosing the correct underlayment is critical in either the Reroof or New Construction process, A-S Urethane Systems can give you the Best options for these decisions.
With different roof slopes on tile roofs it is important that the correct procedures are followed to prevent issues in the future.
Shingles
Shingles are chosen for design purposes and installed on residential roofs with slopes of 3 inches per running foot or greater. They are applied over 15-30 lb felt. Shingles weigh from 150 to 400 lbs per 100 square feet and have a lifespan of 20 to 40 years. They are made from fiberglass and asphalt and have a decorative granular texture.
Waterproof Deck Coating
A-S Urethane Systems has been installing the DECKGARD traffic coating system for over 50 years and has been able to monitor effective procedures to ensure proper installation. DECKGARD provides a very attractive surface and provides superior protection for all types of above-grade decks. DECKGARD is an elastomeric polyurethane suitable for pedestrian traffic. It cures to a firm, resilient, flexible, water and weatherproof coating. It has excellent adhesion to concrete and plywood and when embedded with aggregate, provides a tough-wearing, skid resistant surface with high resistance to ultraviolet and harmful exposure to the sun and weather.
DECKGARD is installed over a sound, plane, and stable substrate, clean and free of curing compounds, oil, grease, paint, plaster and other contaminants. The DECKGARD system is not designed to allow sloping of the substrate in the application process. Slope, if desired, must be designed and built into the substrate prior to the application of the DECKGARD system.
