APPLICATION PROCEDURE
DURAGARD UL Class A Industrial Roof System (Polymer Modifed White Cement Traffic Topping)
Application Procedure
- Spray-in-Place Insulation Procedure: Urethane foam insulation consists of a two-component sprayable type specifically manufactured for roof insulation.
- Apply insulation to all low and/or ponding areas to reduce standing water.
- Spray-apply 1”, 2.5 – 3lb density urethane foam over all roof areas to waterproof and insulate the roof substrate. Insulation shall be carried up all adjacent vertical surfaces to waterproof all penetrations and roof-to-wall junctures. Additional foam insulation may be applied to taper and enhance drainage and/or to provide greater R-value.
- Fluid Applied Waterproofing
- Apply DURAGARD acrylic elastomer base coat at the rate of 1-1/2 gal/100sf.
- Apply DURAGARD acrylic elastomer second coat at the rate of 1-1/2 gal/100sf.
- Apply DURAGARD acrylic elastomer top coat at the rate of 1-1/4 gal/100sf to all vertical surfaces.
- Terminate coating application 4” above foam termination.
- Apply Shasta #6 roofing granules onto uncured second coat at the rate of 60lbs/100sf.
- Apply DURAGARD C-Cure modified cementicious roof coating into embedded aggregate at average of ¼” thickness to provide a 100% foot traffic resistant hard cement shell surface.
DURAGARD 2 Residential Roof System
- Spray-in Place Insulation Procedure: Urethane foam insulation consists of a two-component sprayable type specifically manufactured for roof insulation.
- Apply insulation to all low and/or ponding areas to reduce standing water.
- Spray-apply 1”, 2.5 - 3lb. density urethane foam over all roof areas to waterproof and insulate the roof substrate. Insulation shall be carried up all adjacent vertical surfaces to waterproof all penetrations and roof-to-wall junctures. Additional foam insulation may be applied to taper and enhance drainage and/or to provide greater R-value.
- Fluid Applied Waterproofing
- Apply DURAGARD acrylic elastomer at the rate of 1-1/2 gal/100sf.
- Apply DURAGARD acrylic elastomer second coat at the rate of 1-1/2 gal/100sf using a white color.
- Embed Shasta aggregate at the rate of 30-35 lbs/100sf onto wet top coat to provide wearing surface.
DURAGARD 3 Commercial Roof System in Phoenix, Arizona
Example ...
This 90,000 square foot building, constructed in the 1960’s, suffered from severe ponding and leaking and the current roofing system was experiencing an overall roofing system failure. The roof surface was cluttered with unused and obsolete mechanical equipment. The dilapidated 4” thick multiple roof assembly consisted of the following layers: two ½” layers of perlite insulation, one 5-ply B.U.R. gravel roof, 1” fiberboard and one 4-ply smooth built-up roof with aluminum coating. This roof was in desperate need of A-S Urethane Systems DURAGARD 3 Commercial Roof System and this is how we did it…
Phase one required the removal and demolition of all roof-mounted mechanical equipment and electrical/plumbing runs.
There were many areas where rotted and unsafe metal decking had to be removed and replaced.
Next, the old, wet roofing assembly was loaded onto pushcarts and taken to the landfill.
The installation began with the application of primed (black) 5/8” gyp-substrate over the metal structural deck.
A three-man crew using a transit, shoot and mark the deck elevations in preparation for the foam fill application. This reduces ponding conditions and helps maximize a positive water drainage run off.
Low areas are marked in orange “locate” paint and are then sprayed or filled with urethane spray foam.
The entire roof is sprayed with a minimum 1” application of urethane foam fill. Following the foam application, a layer of gray base coat is applied followed by aggregate and DURAGARD Acrylic Top Coat.
This newly installed roof is now free from leaks, ponding and the clutter of unused equipment and machinery.
The result... a beautiful and professionally installed DURAGARD Foam Roofing System complete with a 10-year warranty!

NOTE: These systems possess a high strength-to-weight ratio, weighing approximately 70% less than a comparable asphalt roof. It locks the roof deck together with a monolithic barrier to heat and moisture. It is adaptable to any configuration upon which it is sprayed.
